19 Jun ANALYSIS OF THE LEGAL AND COMMERCIAL FRAMEWORK OF THE SIEMENS-NIGERIA POWER TRANSACTION IN CONNECTION WITH THE PRESIDENTIAL POWER INITIATIVE
The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), in collaboration with Siemens AG, a German multinational industrial manufacturing company, created the Nigerian Electrification Roadmap (NER) 2019 which sets out a detailed three-phase plan for the Nigerian power sector and capacity expansion of the current power assets and infrastructure in order to unlock the network bottlenecks in the Nigerian power sector.
There have been recent developments in relation to the approval and commencement of Phase 1 of NER, which presently encompasses a power infrastructure and modernisation programme for Nigeria’s electricity grid as documented in the draft Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). Sequel to our earlier published report which provided an overview of the NER, this report seeks to highlight possible challenges and factors which may affect the successful implementation of the PPI in connection with the legal and commercial framework of the initiative alongside the existing framework in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
